I was ten years old when I saw one of Mr. Bakkers’ paintings for the first time. It was a landscape painting of a field in Warmond, so familiar to me. I was as excited about recognizing the location as I was by the mood the painting conveyed; the impression was real and intimate, yet strange and unfamiliar in its style and colors. I am thankful that all the natural and architectural treasures in and around Warmond have been exquisitely preserved by a brilliant painter who is dedicated to a subject so close to his heart and home. Through the paintings, I have come to remember my life growing up in Warmond. Every time I return to this small village, I see many familiar places, alternately through my own eyes and through Bakkers’ beautiful work. It is a treasure to behold. — from the Introduction by Ron van Dongen The landscape paintings of artist Popco Bakkers have long had a loyal following in his native Holland, and are now receiving international attention as well. We are pleased to announce Warmond, the artist’s first major monograph. This long-overdue book spans over years of Bakkers’ work made in and around the idyllic Dutch town of Warmond, and opens with an introduction by fellow countryman Ron van Dongen.
